Located in a scenic location on the top of a promontory extended in the Tyrrhenian Sea in front of the Elba, Piombino is a town rich in history and charm.
Its origins date back to the Etruscans, but it was between the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries, that had its period of glory when it ruled a large portion of the territory and the Tuscan archipelago as the capital of the Principality of Piombino. Date back to that period numerous Renaissance buildings of the old town which today give the town a very elegant look.
In the oldest part of Piombino is a panoramic terrace, Piazza Bovio, which offers a wonderful view of the sea and the Island of Elba. Tourists and residents of Piombino often choose it as a frame of an aperitif or an evening stroll.
Today Piombino is one of the largest marinas in Tuscany because it is strategically linked with Elba, Sardinia and Corsica.
